“Before Watchmen”: Good Idea, or Bad Idea?

If you have never read the comics/graphic novel “Watchmen” by Alan Moore, I highly recommend you do. It is a brilliantly told story of a group of vigilantes past their prime in an alternate reality world that mirrors 1980s America and how the view of the superhero was changed after the Vietnam War. The book is WAYYYYYY better than the 2009 film adaptation.
It was announced this week that DC Comics will be producing a series of prequel’s to Moore’s 86-87 classic series called “Before Watchmen.”
Twitter erupted with feedback about DC’s announcement from fans of Moore’s work.
For one, Moore himself will not be involved with the additions, calling DC’s decision “completely shameless.”
Fan reactions have ranged from excitement to frustration over the upcoming project.
Some of the fan reaction on Twitter include:
DC are publishing prequels to Watchmen. Idiotic. No wonder their new logo looks like a sticking plaster revealing a huge C. What a bunch of…
I’m excited for the Watchmen prequels. Alan Moore wrote a comic, not the Koran. Comics should be about the comics, not the creators
I’m going to start calling the Watchmen prequels SWATCHMEN, cus they’re cheap and nobody will own them in 25 years.
DC Comics is making Watchmen 2. Well, I hope they have fun with that. I’ll be sitting back and watching it crash and burn.
I hope Before Watchmen is just 400 pages of Rorschach posting on the internet about Ron Paul.
watchmen is one of the greatest comic book series/ graphic novels im cised about the prequel series
So is this a good move by DC Comics?
I would personally love it if Moore were involved with the project, but since he isn’t, I’m hesitant.
But… We’ll see what the fans buy.
