Ok, no. Not really, but we now have a celebrity with the name.
Los Angeles Superior Court has granted permission for basketball star Ron Artest to have his name legally changed to Metta World Peace, according to ESPN.
Artest’s daughter, Diamond, also plans on changing her last name to World Peace like her father, according to the article.
Since the NBA is currently in a lockout that doesn’t look like it will be ending anytime soon, you can catch World Peace on this season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, premiering on MONDAY September 19th.
I wonder if they’re going to change Kimsha’s discription to “Metta World Peace’s partner” on Basketball

The internet was a buzz yesterday when details from a new unauthorized biography about
professional pain in the butt former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin were made public, including one about Palin having a one-night-stand with former NBA player Glen Rice.
According to the Washington Post, Joe McGinniss’ new book “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin” claims that Palin had sex with Rice back in 1987 while he was the star player for the University of Michigan and she was a sports reporter for KTUU based out of Alaska. The um, one night special, allegedly occurred when Rice was participating in the Great Alaskan Shootout.
househusband Todd has gone on record vehemently denying all claims made in the book, and neither Rice nor Palin have officially confirmed if this alleged hit it & quit it fling occurred, but McGinniss claims that he got details of what went down directly from Rice.
I will update when both Palin and Rice make official comments!!!
This season’s Dancing with the Stars cast has been revealed!
My money is on Ron Artest! But I will be feeling nostalgic and shouting “GO RICKI! GO RICKI!” when Ricki Lake dances :)
I usually try to avoid stories about the “Famous for no reason” crowd, but i applaud this honest interview.
Let me start by saying that I’ve never been a fan of this show. I tried to watch one episode a while back and the fact that none of them were married to a NBA player at the time of airing made me feel like the show’s title was misleading and defeated the purpose. The term “Wife” was used VERY loosely, and that Royce chick just bothered me.
But, I know a few people who enjoy Basketball Wives, and the show had parlayed its way into popular culture, so here you go.
In an interview the show’s creator, star, and former wife of Shaquille O’Neal Shaunie admits that she is not proud of what the show has become.
According to Bossip, O’Neal gave an Interview to Fox 411’s PopTarts column stating the following:
I never imagined it would be a group of ladies fighting and arguing that way that they do. That was never part of the plan.
I hate that it has to be a fight or an argument that gives us 4.2 million viewers. I hate that, but it’s something where I’m working as hard as I can to show some type of balance, because it is there. We do know how to act, we do charity work. I would love a little more balance and we’re going to try to do more of that in season 4.
And when asked about the upcoming Los Angeles edition of the show, which also has her name on it:
I feel like that show, from what I hear in certain production calls and stuff like that, is turning into ‘I have slept with a basketball player at some point of time in my life, so now I’m on Basketball Wives’. That’s definitely not what I brought to the table and not what I would be proud of having my name on. I think that’s a whole different show that I wouldn’t produce.
O’Neal says that she won’t even let her own kids watch the show.
Her show is feeding into the who “Famous for No Reason” phenomenon that has been taking over TV, radio, and the internet for a few years now. This type of stuff needs to end, in my opinion.
Awsaf Islam, 15, has died as a result of injuries he suffered in a car accident involving Lakers star Lamar Odom, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Odom was in Queens, NY for a cousins funeral when his car, driven by his chauffeur hit a motorcyclist and a pedestrian. Islam underwent emergency surgery, but died late Monday night.
Odom took to Twitter to express his condolences, saying “My thoughts and prayers are with the young boys family…”
His wife, Khloe also tweeted her sympathy, although she was not with her husband at the time of the accident:
My heart/soul goes out 2every1 in pain from any suffering. Pray 4 all of the angels surrounding us constantly. May our spirits stay strong. Above all, love each other deeply, b/c love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality 2 1another without grumbling 1 Peter 4:8-9.
Following in the footsteps of the NFL, the NBA failed to reach a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and is now in a lockout.
All NBA business, including games, facility practices, trades, free agency, and the chance to see “World Peace” on a Lakers jersey have been halted.
The NBA Players association and team owners are still continuing to find some middle ground, but as of right now, there is no 2011-2012 season.
So sad. The players and owners are too greedy to think about the fans. SMH.
The artist formerly known as Ron Artest took 5 good minutes to explain his name change on PTI.
While it has a great meaning behind it, he is still a fool for changing his name to Metta World Peace, especially since he was inspired by Ochocinco.
As promised, here is Stephen A. Smith going IN on Scottie Pippen AGAIN on the 12pm edition of today’s SportsCenter.
He doesn’t come up until 2:06 so you can fast forward to that part.
He comes up with more adjectives and its hilarious!!!
Reactions to Scottie Pippen’s comments on LeBron James and Michael Jordan have not been in his favor.
The most vocal about them has to be one of my favorite people over at ESPN, Stephen A. Smith.
Watch here as Smith goes HAM on Pippen and Skip Bayless right in his face on ESPN’s First Take.
I wish he would have thrown in one of his famous “HOW EV-A“‘s lmao
Gotta love Stephen A. Smith.
When I find the video of Smith on this afternoons SportsCenter I will post that too.
I can’t wait to hear what Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser have to say about this at 5:30
